Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about our IT services and how we can help your business.

General Questions

What areas do you serve?
We're based in Midland-Odessa, Texas and provide on-site services throughout the Permian Basin region. For remote support, monitoring, and cloud services, we work with businesses nationwide. Many of our services can be delivered entirely remotely.
What size businesses do you work with?
We specialize in small to mid-sized businesses, typically ranging from 5 to 200 employees. Our solutions are designed to give smaller organizations access to enterprise-grade infrastructure without enterprise-level costs or complexity.
How is SureServeIT different from other IT companies?
Three key differences:
  • Research-backed approach: Our infrastructure framework is based on academic research, not just industry trends.
  • Built-in visibility: Every system we build includes observability from day one - you'll always know what's happening.
  • No vendor lock-in: We use open-source tools wherever possible. You own your infrastructure, not us.
Do you offer emergency support?
Yes. All managed IT clients have access to emergency support. Response times depend on your service tier, but critical issues are always prioritized. Our monitoring systems often detect problems before you notice them, allowing us to resolve issues proactively.

Services

What's included in Managed IT?
Our Managed IT service includes:
  • Help desk support (phone, email, chat)
  • 24/7 monitoring and alerting
  • Patch management and security updates
  • Backup management and verification
  • User onboarding/offboarding
  • Vendor management
  • Regular strategy reviews
Specific inclusions vary by tier. See our plans for details.
What is observability and why do I need it?
Observability means having complete visibility into your IT systems - metrics, logs, and dashboards that show you exactly what's happening. You need it because:
  • You'll know about problems before your customers do
  • Troubleshooting drops from hours to minutes
  • You can make data-driven decisions about capacity and spending
  • It's required for true 24/7 monitoring

Do you help with cloud migration?
Yes. We help businesses move to the cloud, stay on-premise, or implement hybrid solutions. We're cloud-agnostic - we'll recommend what's best for your specific situation, whether that's AWS, Azure, GCP, or keeping things local. Learn about our cloud services.
Can you work with our existing systems?
Absolutely. We don't require you to rip and replace everything. We'll assess your current environment, identify what's working, and build improvements incrementally. Our goal is to improve your infrastructure, not create unnecessary disruption.

Pricing & Contracts

How does pricing work?
We offer two pricing models:
  • Per-user/per-month: For managed IT services, you pay a flat rate per user. This includes all standard support and management.
  • Project-based: For infrastructure builds, migrations, and one-time projects, we provide fixed-price quotes after assessment.
All pricing is transparent with no hidden fees. We'll always tell you what things cost before we do them.
Are there long-term contracts?
For managed IT services, we typically work on month-to-month agreements after an initial 3-month period. We believe in earning your business every month, not locking you in. Project work is contracted per-project with clear deliverables and timelines.
Do you offer free consultations?
Yes. We offer a free initial consultation to understand your needs and determine if we're a good fit. This typically includes a high-level assessment of your current environment and recommendations. No obligation, no pressure.

Technical

What is the 3-plane architecture model?
Our infrastructure framework separates systems into three planes:
  • Data Plane: Where your applications and data live
  • Control Plane: Orchestration, automation, and policy enforcement
  • Management Plane: Visibility, monitoring, and intelligence
This separation creates natural redundancy and makes systems easier to understand, troubleshoot, and scale. Learn more about our approach.
What tools and technologies do you use?
We prioritize open-source, battle-tested tools:
  • Virtualization: Proxmox VE
  • Containers: Docker, Kubernetes
  • Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki (PLG stack)
  • Storage: Ceph distributed storage
  • Business Apps: ERPNext, Nextcloud, Keycloak
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible
We also work with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) when cloud services make sense.
How do you handle security?
Security is built into everything we do:
  • Network segmentation and firewall management
  • Endpoint protection and monitoring
  • Regular patching and updates
  • Access control and identity management
  • Encrypted backups with off-site replication
  • Security awareness training for your team
We follow industry best practices and can help with compliance requirements (HIPAA, PCI, etc.) as needed.
